The first Louisiana Cursillo was held in September of 1974. This was when Louisiana was made up of one diocese. During that time frame there were up to twelve Cursillos held each year. More recently, there have been two Cursillos each year, one in the spring and one in the fall. One exception was in Fall 2005, when we had to postpone Cursillo 132 until Spring 2006 because Camp Hardtner was housing evacuees from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Many of the earlier Cursillos the Lay Rector’s name was not highlighted in any way. If you were a Lay Rector, or know who the Rector was for any of these early Cursillos please let us know.
Thanks to Marinell McMichael of St. Matthias, Shreveport for supplying us with the names of some of the early lay rectors. She also said that Joe Wallace, Don Bush and Don Lookenott (the Banana Cursillo) each served as Lay Rector during those early days.
Additionaly, Father Ralph and Marinell McMichael and Nick and Barbara Skrivanos brought and served on the first Cursillo in Tennessee and in Southern Ohio in London.
